I found out what I really wanted and was forced to give him up. Just as I found out who I really am, I was presented to the elusive Horde King as a gift.
This was the mystical being I was hidden from for more than twenty years.
Although Ryder promised to save me, I couldn't let him get near this creature, so I willingly (sort of) signed myself over to be his new plaything.
Now in the Horde Realm, nothing is going remotely like I thought it would.
My powers and emotions are on the fritz, and each day seems to bring surprises that I am not sure how to deal with.
The Horde King thinks he has me exactly where he wants me.
He thinks he has taken all of my options away.
I still have choices.
Embracing what destiny has planned for me, or escaping it.
I didn't think I could love Synthia anymore than I already do, but clearly I thought wrong. She's definitely in my top 5 badass heroines of all time, and if you've been following the Fae Chronicles like moi you'll know what I mean. But for those who don't there's no need to worry because I'm gonna fill you in, Synthia is tough, loyal, brave, witty, bitchy and just plain awesome. We saw her softer side in Taunting Destiny, which worked really well as we connected with her on another level, but it seems in this one we have the perfect balance of badass and soft. Her emotions are all over the place, understandably of course, and hey mine were just as haywire from page one. After the way it ended in Taunting Destiny I lost my shit a little, I took my frustration out on my room, punched my pillow a little and then huffed in annoyance. Since then so many different scenarios have run through my head, and just reading page one I was so nervous my hands were shaking. Everything picks up right where it left off with Syn and the Horde King, and something that struck me about this is there is no feeling of disconnection. As if it hasn't been months since we put down Taunting Destiny, but rather everything is in perfect sync. Things move along pretty quickly, we delve deep into the world of the Horde and follow Syn on her journey to adapting and trying to find a way to make Ryder realize his love for her. Their relationship is as ever tumultuous, and just when it seems like they might get a break shit once again hits the proverbial fan. What I loved most was the new dimension of their relationship, it wasn't all about sex, manipulation or control. We get to see deeper into the characters minds, grasp an understanding of their decisions and get all tingly from the beauty of it. Syn gives back as good as she gets, and I loved watching her relationship grow not just with Ryder but also Ristan...damn I love that demon. But then again, how could we not.
He was my Knight in a fucking Fairy suit! He was supposed to storm the castle walls and protect me, to save me. I was his, damn it! Only his.
“I’m going to fight for him. He’s my ever after, Adam. I’m willing to fight to keep him,”
As more secrets come out into the open I couldn't help but feel like this was a book of revelations, I've lost count of the amount of times my mind was blown. I'm not just referring to Ryder, but secrets pertaining to his hot as sin posse, Adam and many more but I'm not gonna spoil it for you. Another aspect of this book is we get to see and understand the inner workings of Faery, from it's political system to it's source of power. Amelia illustrates everything so beautifully I actually believe Faery exists, yes I said BELIEVE because that is the power of Amelia's words. I felt so connected to everything and everyone, the concept of magical realism is tricky at times but Amelia's level of attention and detail is just astounding. You feel like you're physically there, you feel what the characters feel and you totally want to help them fight in the coming war. If I could leap into my Kindle, I'd do it in a heartbeat minions.
She’s my fucking anchor, and no one will take her from me again, not even to save this world.
“You are mine, Synthia. I’ve always told you that, never have I danced around what it is I want from you. I’ve kept many secrets for good reason, until it was the right time to reveal them. I won’t make any excuses for what I have done, or how I got you here, Pet. I’m glad you are here with me, and I’m happy that you are the Blood Heir. It makes it easy for me to keep you.
So my rating? 5 out of this world fucktastic stars! I'm always talking about the Fae Chronicles, be it in the jungle or on social media, my love for them is irrevocable. If you haven't joined the stalker crazed club, you need to get a move on because you are so missing out. Seriously, I pity you a little. This will change everything you know or have read about Faeries, and as someone who's read a lo on Faeries this is hands down on the best interpretations out there. It's full of adventure, excitement, mystery, drama, action, sex and an otherworldly love that will melt your heart. Amelia is an author who is super talented, with a crazy beautiful imagination and a writing style that is unforgettable. The rhythm of the story never skips a beat, and just when you think you have it figured out she blindsides you with a curveball. This book will leave you breathless, frustrated, overjoyed, swooning, panting and just combust with emotion overload.
